5 Kingston Breweries You NEED To Visit On Your Next Group Tour!

Oct 31, 2022

Similar to other regions across the province, Kingston has experienced record growth in local breweries over the past decade. Talented brewmasters have opened up shop in the west, east, and downtown areas of the city. A city known for its local pride- Kingston residents have happily supported and enjoyed the presence of new beers brewed locally. If you’re looking to do a brewery tour to explore these establishments, here are 5 stops we suggest you include!

Spearhead Brewery

Spearhead Brewing Company wasted no time bursting onto the Kingston Beer Scene. The team has integrated into the community by hosting countless events for different organizations and groups in the city. They’re known to host local food trucks, artists and musicians. A large hit this past summer was taco and oyster night. Shucked by a true professional, if you know someone who is looking to try oysters for the first time- make sure it’s here. Over 30 years of brewing experience combined with state of the art, efficient tanks, making a decision on what beer to order can present a challenge. Their Lighthouse IPA is a strong beer with sharp flavours, while their lighter lager is smooth and easy drinking. Either of these are a great place to start.

Riverhead Brewing Company

Riverhead Brewing Company is located in the West End of the city. You can find them just South of the 401, on Gardiners Rd- providing those passing through the region a great opportunity to grab some local flavours to bring to their final destination. Being a licensed Tied House, they can serve full glasses of their beers as well as sell if out of their store. You can also find booths, games, and a bar with a view to the taproom inside. One product that has been turning heads across the city is their Mexican Cerveza. A lighter lager with hints of lime- it’s creators note that it has been known to go down smooth after a hard days work.

Daft Brewing Company

Located in the midtown mile of the Limestone City- Daft Brewing brings a West-coast vibe to the neighbourhood. Along with a number of other new developments, Daft has turned the area into a lively stretch of Kingston’s main street. Their passion for beer is evident in their products- finding hops from around the world to craft pints for beer lovers across the city. Daft is committed to these strong community roots, they even feature a beer from Kingston Area Brewer’s of beer, the city’s homebrew club.

Stone City Ales

Stone City Ales Patio In Summer

Stone City Ales is one of two downtown breweries in Kingston. Inside, you’ll experience a modern yet industrial feel with exposed brick and metal. The brewery proudly focuses on supporting local- as seen with their menu. Expect to find a selection of beers with robust flavours, along with menu items filled with ingredients from local farms/producers. For those who enjoy a dark stout- keep an eye out for their “Ships in the Night” Oatmeal Stout. With notes of espresso, dark chocolate, and toasted nuts, expect a velvety experience from start to finish.

It’s located on the heart of Princess Street, so you are unlikely to experience the city in a more authentic way.

Kingston Brewing Company

Kingston Brewing Company is another one of the city’s downtown beer makers. In contrast to Stone City Ales, KBC offers a more classic feel as the oldest Pub in Ontario. It’s located in an 1800s telegraph office, with rustic wooden booths and walls packed with beer memorabilia. The restaurant is also home to two experiences that offer their own charm. It’s banquet room (the Dragon’s Lair) is a great option for those looking to host an event in Downtown Kingston. And the back courtyard is another authentic experience that taps into the old-town Kingston feel, using the old carriageway beside the pub. Years of experience come together to offer patrons some fantastic options- including their Double Dry Hopped IPA.

Kingston is truly fortunate to have passionate brewers across the city refining their skills and creating products in its own backyard. The local breweries have added to the city’s vibrant culture and given residents new experiences that can be seen throughout the seasons. Fort Henry’s Craft Beer Fest is one event where the city’s love for craft beer is put on display. Stay tuned for more brewery updates on our website, as we are always looking to highlight our local breweries and the work they are doing. And if you’d like to take it a step further and pay them a visit- you know who to call!
