Oct 31, 2022

Planning your next wine tour in Prince Edward County? Look no further than this list to guide you through some of the must-see wineries in Southeastern Ontario wine country. For today’s tour, we’re going to begin on the East Side of the county- then venture West as we tell you about what you can expect from wineries in a number of different towns of the island.

Three Dog Winery (Picton, ON)

Three Dog Winery Barn

Three Dog Winery is a great first stop on your tour- especially if you’re coming from the east. Located just over the Quinte Skyway Bridge on Fish Lake Road, Three Dog Winery is only 15 minutes from both the 401 and Picton. Not only can you find a variety of different grapes (Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Franc, and Baco Noir)- but you can also find a variety of different cuisines depending on when you visit. The winery hosts numerous local restaurant pop-ups throughout the summer with live music on weekends. If you get the opportunity, you must take advantage of the wood-fired pizzas!

Del-Gatto Estates (Picton, ON)

Located in Picton, Del-Gatto Estates is a fantastic option for a tasting that is home to rich family tradition. After falling in love with the beauty of Prince Edward County, the family decided to sell their home, quit their jobs, and move from Oshawa to begin their wine-making journey. Shortly after, Pat Del-Gatto’s parents moved as well to stay close to their grandchildren. Their knowledge and skills helped to not only lay out the vineyard, but have become an integral part of the success of the business. The hard-working, Italian family is proud to share their culture through hand planted, hand picked, and hand crafted wines. Specializing in hybrid grape varieties, Del-Gatto Estates brings an authentic feel of Italy to Southern Ontario.

Huff Estates (Bloomfield, ON)

Huff Estates winery, inn, and art gallery offers coastal Californian vibes in the southeastern Ontario countryside. Its state of the art, modern facility is home to award winning wines served by knowledgeable staff. Guests can choose from indoor or outdoor dining experiences while overlooking the vineyards through floor-to-ceiling windows. A unique experience unlike any other winery- we suggest making this your stop for lunch on your next wine tour.

Karlo Estates Winery (Wellington, ON)

Karlo Estates Winery offers guests the opportunity to experience wine in a way that is sustainable- and fully vegan. How is wine not vegan, you ask? Well, a wine is considered to be vegan when it is made without using any animal products. The team at Karlo Estates takes this a step further- using vegan packaging, and hosts a fully vegan menu. These values are what allow guests to enjoy wine without any cheap animal byproducts that are often found in wines from larger, commercial companies. If quality is what you’re after, a visit to the first vegan certified winery in the world is a must.

Closson Chase Vineyards (Hillier, ON)

Now, if we’re starting our wine tour on the east side of the county, Closson Chase might just be the perfect place to wrap things up on the west side. Located in Hillier, Closson Chase is spearheaded by International Sommelier Keith Tyers. An extensive career in the industry has led Keith and his team at Closson Chase to continue its rich history of excellence in Chardonnay while also producing some of the finest Pinot Noirs. Another establishment home to a beautiful, historic barn, you’ll know you’ve arrived at the vineyard when you see its iconic purple hue.

Well that just about wraps up our east to west tour through Prince Edward County wine country. We thank you for the time you’ve given us to share our thoughts on what we believe to be some of the finest establishments in the region. As always, we offer custom packages that also include visits to breweries and cideries found in the county. Looking to discuss your options with those who know the area best? Contact us today!
