Things To Do In Prince Edward County This Fall!

Summer months are dwindling- but that’s no reason to think a trip to Prince Edward County will be any less eventful. Along with the temperature, you can expect tourist numbers to decline in the fall, offering guests more moments of solitude at some of the most picturesque locations in our province. Prince Edward County also hosts annual fall festivals and shows that visitors can attend to truly experience the culture of the County.

Sandbanks Provincial Park has been frequently visited by tourists in Prince Edward County for decades- but most visitors don’t get the chance to explore the park as the leaves begin to change colours. The park has two different trails to explore- offering guests the opportunity to see one of the most spectacular beaches Ontario has to offer in a different light. Replacing warm sand between your toes for crunchy leaves under your feet is an underrated exchange that few Ontario tourists get to experience. Speaking of underrated- North Beach Provincial Park is another location that transitions from a summer wonderland to a cozy, fall paradise. If you’re visiting PEC in the fall months, be sure to plan a sunset walk to view the beautiful yellow, orange and red hues reflecting off of Lake Ontario.

You can expect to see groups such as The Hannaford Street Silver Band, Basta Parlare, and the Myriade Quartet among others. In addition, on September 17, the Sandbanks Music Festival will be taking place! The festival will be headlined by Born Ruffians, and feature local artist Craig Foster. Tickets are Admission for children under 12 is free, and $1 from each ticket will go to the Friends of Sandbanks- to support the upkeep and development of the park system.

The flavourful experiences throughout the County don’t end with summer. As the colours of the leaves begin to change, PEC enters Harvest Season- giving visitors a chance to stock up on locally grown produce before the ground freezes. Danforth Acres in Hillier allows you to take your pick of fresh fruits and vegetables. Don’t forget to bring some cash, as this farm operates on the honour system, and guests can leave their payment in a lockbox. To get into the spirit of fall, visit Honey Wagon Farms to find some of the most beautiful squash and pumpkins on display. For dessert lovers, you absolutely have to pay a visit to Creasy’s Apple Dabble Farm in Waupoos, where you can find pies, tarts, turnovers and squares after a day of apple picking.

And if you’re looking for a family-oriented day at the farm, check out Campbell’s Orchard and Country Market- where the kids can explore the corn maze, playground, and animal petting area. There is truly no shortage of options when it comes to places to explore Harvest Season in PEC.

Speaking of flavours of the County- we can’t forget to mention some establishments that are most definitely worth a visit during the months of Autumn. For example, Parson’s Brewing Company offers its own take on Oktoberfest- where you can indulge in some of the finest beers inspired by German culture. And if you think Lake on the Mountain is a site to see in the Summer, you absolutely have to make a visit after the trees change colours. And let’s not forget, this is the best time of year to experience a Cider tour- if this tickles your fancy, you know who to call.
