These parts of the world are known for long, dark, cold winters, which makes it no surprise that those native to these regions emphasize self-care.
Scandinavian Spas originated as saunas- essentially tents made from animal skins. During the day, a fire would burn underneath a pile of rocks in the tent. When the fire went out at night, the hot stones continued to warm the tent. People then began pouring water on the rocks to create a steamy, warm, and cozy environment.
Thermotherapy treatment takes place in 3 steps- warm, cold, and rest. At Nordik Spa, the process typically begins in one of 9 unique saunas, allowing your body to store heat, dilate pores, and evacuate toxins from the body. When switching to cold, the transition produces a thermal shock which has the effect of releasing adrenaline. Then comes the final step of thermotherapy, resting, which allows adrenaline to evacuate the body to make room for endorphins.
